today a true hero has left our world

Life Between Worlds - Issue #3 (October 13th, 2005)

Harry Buoy was one of those quiet men that never made a big deal out of his accomplishments or of his own persona. His presence was always marked by an elegant and friendly form of diffidence in such way that you’d never see the depth, quality and power of his character without watching and listening carefully for a while. The real story of his life shows that there was a lot more then what was visible at a first sight. He fought in the war for Canada (ironically partly in Germany), survived the economic depression in Alberta, started a business and became a successful entrepreneur. But that is just one side of Harry’s 'life-coin’. Other then many other 'successful’ businesspeople he also managed to build, support and hold together his family in a very sovereign and a truly (not just monetarily) successful style.

Harry Buoy knew when to stop making money and to enjoy life with his great wife Doris. He knew when it was time to take care of himself and others, when to support and when to protect. He was a sensitive and infinitely loyal man that stood up to defend and protect those who needed help. For instance he took responsibility of my wife Christy in his selfless style when she was still little and vulnerable to the truly frightening troubles of her divorcing parents. He took care for her proper upbringing and supported her through the ups and downs of life even as an adult up until today. He became her father, her stronghold, mentor and her best friend even if that meant to sometimes make unpopular decisions. To me this is just one area where he showed his true generosity and greatness.
Harry, I am sad I missed the opportunity to thank you for giving Christy a chance to become the special person she is to her family, to her friends and to me today.

I knew Harry only for three years but I enjoyed every visit with him, every conversation and every one of his subdued but very astute smiles. He certainly was successful in many areas of his life but his humanity, sensitivity, character and ability to give love to those who deserved it makes him unforgettable to me. In those short three years I learned a great deal about life from Harry Buoy.

In my eyes Harry was one of the true heroes of our world. To fill his shoes in taking care of Christy by his standards is the the huge challenge he has left for me. I feel humbled, intimidated, blessed, proud and truely greatfuly in the same time.

Today, October 13th, 2005 Harry Buoy has left our world.

My thoughts and my dolefulness are with Doris, Marie, Christy and their family.
