fitness or fatness ?

Life Between Worlds - Issue #1 (August, 2005)

This is serious. If I can't stop this downward spiral of my physical condition, then I'll soon look and feel like my ancestors - way too overweight with a big belly in front of me. Why is that?

I think most people suffer in their lives because they assume that nothing changes. They assume this is true for their business relations and activities, friends, hobbies, spouse, and their bodies. This is one of the biggest mistakes they make. I know, because I made it too.

Everything changes. In this case, my metabolism changed as I got older. Plus, the amount of time I put into practicing physical activities changed as I got more focused on business and other things. The results were horrible!

I once I was really fit, participating in lots of sports and eating properly. But I developed some bad habits in my early twenties, and they haunt me to this day. These habits include danishes and croissants every morning, yummy coffee with lots of sugar, greasy food, and portions that would be more suited to feeding a hippo.

Now I am looking at myself and realizing the (horrible) results.

After several not very serious attempts to get back to 'normal' I feel like I am now at a crossroads: One way is the easy way - I could just go ahead and keep my bad habits, ignoring the fact that both my body and my circumstances are changed. Sounds very convenient. And satisfying. The downside of this path is that it'll lead directly to FATNESS and the results will be way more horrible than they are now.

The other path leads in a different direction. It’s narrow, steep, rocky, and therefore much harder to climb. It'll be easy to fall off the cliff into the valley of the old habits at many points along the way. This way though will lead to the holy grail of human aging - LONG TERM FITNESS and wellness.

There is no choice in-between - just one way or the other!

So I’ve decided to take the hard way - to apply this experiment to myself and my body, to try and and become fit once more. I want you to be my witness in the lab! You will be able to watch my progress and give comments, tips or criticism right here. Every week you'll get an update on the numbers and on the development of my body profile.

My goal is to lose 10 Kg (x pounds) of bodyweight and get back to decent cardio-vascular fitness, and improve my body strength.

Relax & Succeed,

Peter
